Stephen McWhirter Shares His Testimony from Meth Addiction to Ministry

A chart-topping Christian singer says Jesus freed him from crystal meth addiction and led him on a journey to preach the life-changing power of God. Stephen McWhorter has risen to number one on the iTunes Christian charts with his song. Jesus, come The song was nominated for two K-Love Fan Awards this year: Song of the Year and Breakout Single of the Year.

But 20 years ago, McWhorter was a drug addict who hated religion, and his daily goal was to find a way to buy methamphetamine.

“I was addicted to drugs for over 11 years, hated Jesus, hated Christians, hated everything,” McWhirter told Crosswalk Headlines. “People were praying for me.”

of Tipping point He says a major turning point in his life came when someone gave him a book by Lee Strobel. The Claims of Christ.

“It’s a miracle that I accepted it,” he said. “I met Jesus while I was reading the book at about 3 a.m. … And I thought, ‘God, you are real, and I want to give my life to you. I want to quit all of this. I want to quit everything. I don’t know how to do it.’ And I remember the Lord said, ‘You won’t do it. I will.’ And I believed the Lord. I believed that thought, that I knew didn’t come from me. I literally quit everything and started on this path.”

He first got into singing Christian music after a friend suggested he get a job singing in a church, but because of his past, McWhorter didn’t think he’d be hired.

“But never underestimate how hard it is to be a pastor as a worship leader,” McWhirter said with a laugh. “He said, ‘Great, I’m hiring you.’ … And that was it. That was the beginning.”

McWhorter wrote: Jesus, come He was inspired to write it after reading the book during the pandemic. Revelation 22:17It says, “The Spirit and the bride say, Come. Let him who hears say, Come. Let anyone who thirsts come. Let anyone who desires take life’s water for free.”

“As I look forward to Jesus’ second coming, I’m beginning to learn that I can love people more. I can build more important things. He said: “We released the song, we started doing live streams on TikTok, Facebook and Instagram asking people if the song made them want to believe in Jesus.

McWhorter calculates that 39,000 people accepted Christ because of the song.

“And God breathed into this song, He said.

His message to fans, he says, is simple: God is real.
