Sterling Sharpe Inducted into Pro Football Hall of Fame
Former Green Bay Packers wide receiver Sterling Sharpe finally achieved his dream of joining the Pro Football Hall of Fame. On Saturday in Canton, he delivered an emotional speech as he received his bust, marking a special milestone in his career. But what stood out the most was his heartfelt gesture towards his brother, Shannon Sharpe, who is also in the Hall of Fame.
Sterling presented his brother with his highly anticipated gold jacket, a nod to the years of support they’ve provided each other. This moment echoed back to a few years ago when Shannon gifted Sterling a Super Bowl ring after the Denver Broncos triumphed over the Packers in Super Bowl XXXII. At that time, it was Shannon’s first championship win, and his subsequent two titles further underscored the bond between the brothers.
In his speech, Sterling took a moment to reflect on the unique connection he shares with his younger sibling. “Everything I did, I did for one audience,” he shared, emphasizing how important that familial bond was to him. “I didn’t want him to look outside our dinner table for a role model.”
Shannon, who entered the Hall of Fame in 2011, previously asserted that Sterling was the better athlete, a point he echoed during Sterling’s enshrinement. “The last time I was here, you said you were the second-best football player in your own family. Well, I agree with that…” he noted, celebrating Sterling’s triumph.
They became the first brother duo to be inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame—a remarkable achievement in NFL history. In a pre-recorded segment before Sterling’s acceptance speech, Shannon praised his brother’s gritty style of play. “He was a freight train… he didn’t shy away from the physicality of the game,” Shannon remarked, illustrating Sterling’s determination on the field.
Throughout his illustrious career, Sterling remained loyal to the Packers, earning three All-Pro honors and becoming the first player in NFL history to record back-to-back seasons with over 100 receptions. His dedication and skill have left an indelible mark on the game.
