Popular soap opera star Steve Burton confirmed Wednesday that he is leaving the long-running show “Days of Our Lives,” about a year after returning to the soap opera.
“Wow! Well, we just shot the last scene of Days of Our Lives here, and I just want to say a big thank you to the entire cast. [and] To the crew. It was amazing,” Burton, 53, said in the video. Uploaded to YouTube.
“I can't believe it's already been a year! Well then, thank you so much to all the fans. It's just…I'm always filled with gratitude. Thank you. Stay tuned,” he continued.
The newspaper has contacted Burton for comment.
Burton made his Days debut in 1988 as Harris Michaels, but left the show a year later when his contract expired.
After appearing on the four-time Emmy Award-winning show, Burton went on to appear on “The Young and the Restless'' and the ABC drama “General Hospital,'' for which he won multiple Daytime Emmy Awards.
In 2021, Burton revealed that he was removed from the hit ABC show after refusing to comply with the studio's COVID-19 vaccination requirements.
“I know there are a lot of rumors and speculation about me and 'General Hospital,' but I wanted you to hear it from me personally,” the actor said in a video posted to his Instagram. “Unfortunately, 'General Hospital' discharged me due to mandatory vaccinations.”
Star said she applied for both religious and medical exemptions through the studio, but both were denied. “But this is also about personal freedom for me.”
“I will always be grateful for the time I spent on 'General Hospital.' I grew up there and I love it. I believe that when one door closes, multiple doors open… so I'm very excited about the future. I'm looking forward to seeing what he brings. And maybe one day, once these obligations are lifted, I can come back and finish out my career as Jason Morgan,” Burton added.
In 2022, Burton reappeared as Michaels in the “Days” spinoff series “Beyond Salem” before returning to the actual show.

“I wanted to make something clear. Shelly and I are separated,” Burton wrote on her Instagram Story in July 2022. “She recently announced that she is pregnant with her fourth child. That child is not mine.”

Burton's divorce was finalized in December 2023.
