Steve Cohen can’t comprehend Mets’ latest ‘disheartening’ loss

Steve Cohen wasn’t going to take this lying down.

After the Mets squandered a 6-2 lead to suffer a heartbreaking 8-7 loss to the Giants at Citi Field on Friday night, the Amazing owner took to the X to vent his frustrations about the team’s recent poor performance.

But he sympathized with the fan base.

“This is so far-fetched. I can’t believe it. I know how disappointing this is for the fans. Thank you for caring so much,” Cohen said. I wrote to X After the Mets’ recent loss.

The Mets had now lost their fourth straight game and nine of their past 11. Normally reliable reliever Reid Garrett collapsed in the eighth inning, and San Francisco catcher Patrick Bailey struck him out with a grand slam.

The Mets are currently eight games under .500, their worst showing of the season, starting with a five-game losing streak in Queens.

The worst of the situation, which seemed to begin in earnest on May 10, saw the Mets’ relief pitchers falter multiple times, including Edwin Diaz’s two failed saves in last week’s series against the Phillies.

But his lowest point came last Saturday in a no-save situation when he gave up four runs, including a game-tying home run by Josh Bell, in the ninth inning against the Marlins.

In the end, the Mets lost the game in overtime.

Diaz pitched a scoreless seventh inning on Friday, but Garrett fizzled out and with the bases loaded in the ninth, Mark Vientos was out on an infield grounder by Matt Chapman to end the game.

They’re currently 15.5 games out of first place, but as the Mets’ hopes continue to be dashed, Cohen is apparently frustrated by their drop in the standings.
