California Gubernatorial Contender Steve Hilton Celebrates Predecessor
Steve Hilton, a leading contender in the California gubernatorial race, recently acknowledged his predecessor, Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger, while showcasing his unique fashion sense. He donned a striking black suit with a bold lining—one side featuring the American flag and the other displaying the vibrant colors of California’s state flag.
Hilton, the Republican candidate who garnered roughly 28% of the votes in early polling, took the stage and almost celebrated a victory as one of the top two candidates advancing to the general election. He humorously noted, “I’m sure some of you are wondering, ‘Who is this guy with this weird accent?'”
At his election watch party in Huntington Beach, a place known for its Republican support, Hilton addressed an enthusiastic crowd by pointing out the significance of having an immigrant serve as California’s governor. “Look, there was actually an immigrant who was the governor of California,” he said, emphasizing his own immigrant background.
Preliminary results indicate that Xavier Becerra is emerging as the leading Democratic candidate, likely to progress to the general election after Hilton, with Tom Steyer trailing in third.
That night, Hilton and his supporters kept reiterating the core campaign message: “Change is coming.” Reflecting on his journey to American citizenship, he shared a memory of Schwarzenegger congratulating him in a video, humorously adding that the former governor teased him about his jacket choice.
As he neared a nomination in the gubernatorial race, Hilton opened his jacket, revealing the flag-lined insides, and pointed at the camera, declaring, “Arnold, that was yours.” However, it’s worth noting that Schwarzenegger has yet to publicly endorse any candidate in this crowded primary.
As of now, inquiries have been made to Schwarzenegger’s office for a response.
