Steve Martin weighed in on recent rumors that Meryl Streep and Martin Short are dating with a hilariously cryptic message.
'Father of the Bride' actor talks about his 'Murder in the Building' co-stars' close relationship on instagram On Friday, he shared a photo of all three stars from the Glamor article.
However, Martin's face was covered in a big red ban emoji, apparently indicating that he was the third wheel.
Although the 79-year-old comedian did not add a caption to the post, many fans took the opportunity to congratulate the potential new couple in the comments.
One person wrote: “I don't know why thinking about Meryl and Martin makes me so happy but honestly it fills my heart with joy,” while another said: “I've never been so excited about celebrity couple rumors. It's my first time,” he commented.
“Even though we're friends, I'm truly crazy about Meryl and Martin as a couple. They're both just glowing ✨,” another commented.
Martin's post comes after Short, 74, and Streep, 75, were spotted out for a cozy dinner together at Giorgio Baldi in Santa Monica, Calif., all smiles earlier this week. Posted immediately after.
The rumors arose after the two, who play lovers on the Hulu series, were spotted getting close at the 2024 Golden Globe Awards.
Short's rep quickly shot down speculation of a romantic relationship between the two, telling People at the time that the two were “nothing more than friends.”
However, the actors have been spotted enjoying each other's company several times since then, including going out to dinner and seeing a Broadway play together.
In August, the Oscar-winning actress was spotted holding hands with Short on Hulu's Season 4 premiere.
Sources told Page Six that Streep and Short were close to each other inside the theater, showing off their “close friendship.”
“They came in holding hands and laughing with joy. It was so sweet and cute,” we said. “It has to be more than just a 'showmance.' There's definitely something there.”
