Steve Martin refuses Tim Walz role on ‘SNL’ despite pleas from fans

Steve Martin has no interest in doing an impersonation of Gov. Tim Walz, Kamala Harris’ running mate, on “Saturday Night Live,” despite pleas from fans.

Shortly after Harris announced the Minnesota governor as her running mate, Martin Los Angeles Times He talked about getting a call from “SNL” producer Lorne Michaels asking him to appear on the famous comedy show.

“I wanted to say no, and by the way he wanted me to say no,” Martin told the outlet about the call with Michaels.

“I said, ‘Lorne, I’m not an impersonator. We need someone who can really play the guy well.’ They chose me because I have white hair and glasses,” he continued.

The actor also said he has an “ongoing” commitment to appear as Waltz on “SNL,” which doesn’t coincide with his current schedule.

“Again, you need a real impersonator to do that. You need to find someone really, really good. I’d have a hard time doing it.”

Martin appeared on the thread shortly after Harris selected Waltz as her running mate, sparking speculation that he might join “SNL” alongside Maya Rudolph.

“I learned that Tim Waltz wanted to go on tour with Marty Short,” Martin wrote.

Martin referenced his Only Murders in the Building co-star Martin Short in the post, and fans pointed out the physical similarities between Martin and Waltz.
