Concerns after Texas Longhorns’ Victory
Following the Texas Longhorns’ overtime victory against Mississippi State, head coach Steve Sarkisian expressed his frustration during the postgame press conference. The game not only saw the team win, but it also resulted in quarterback Arch Manning being injured.
Adding to the drama, a report surfaced earlier that day, suggesting Sarkisian was interested in an NFL head coaching position, specifically with the Tennessee Titans. This was shared by a representative for Sarkisian, which understandably stirred up conversation.
However, Sarkisian’s agent quickly labeled this report as “patently false and grossly inaccurate.” Nevertheless, Sarkisian felt the need to address it himself after the game.
“I really want to discuss this, so just give me a moment because it’s quite frustrating that someone can generate a report that muddles things for the media and the entire sports community,” Sarkisian stated. “This has led my agency and representatives to make a statement, which, historically, they’ve never needed to do.”
He continued, “Since I have to do this to protect my locker room and my team, I find it completely absurd. It’s unprofessional and frankly embarrassing for everyone involved.” Sarkisian referred to the reporter’s actions as unprofessional, noting how the media quickly picked up the story without proper verification.
Despite the swirling rumors, Sarkisian is focused on his current team, who are 6-2 and ranked 22nd nationally. He has been leading the Longhorns since 2021, with a commendable record of 44-19. Initially, expectations were high for Texas this season, especially with Manning at the helm, but the team’s performance hasn’t been as consistent as hoped.
Still, there remains a glimmer of hope for the Longhorns to reach the College Football Playoff again, similar to their success last year.
