Steve Sarkisian of Texas suddenly cuts off ESPN postgame interview: 'Texas fight'

Texas Upsets Ohio State in a Dramatic Showdown

The No. 4 Texas Longhorns pulled off an exciting 24-23 victory against the top-ranked Ohio State Buckeyes on Saturday night in Austin, Texas, and it was definitely a game filled with tension and drama.

However, the evening also featured some unexpected drama involving ESPN reporters and Texas head coach Steve Sarkisian.

At the conclusion of the thrilling matchup, Hollie Rowe from ESPN approached Sarkisian for an interview. Just as she began her first question, Sarkisian interrupted, enthusiastically shouting, “Go Texas, fight! Let’s go Texas, fight! Hook ’em!” before walking away to join his team in celebration. Rowe appeared somewhat taken aback by his abrupt exit.

This incident followed another earlier in the game when ESPN sideline reporter Laura Rutledge attempted to interview Sarkisian but faced technical difficulties. At that moment, the Texas coach, dealing with his team’s significant 20-3 deficit, decided he needed to speak with his players instead of waiting any longer.

Rutledge later acknowledged on-air that Sarkisian had indeed been patient, and based on the circumstances, she completely understood his decision to step away.

She had another opportunity to speak with him after the halftime break, and she took the time to clarify what went down during that chaotic stretch. “I do want to make sure we clear something up: (Sarkisian) did decline the interview at the half,” she explained. “He had waited a long time, been very patient with some technical issues that we had. He apologized to us. We should be apologizing to him, which we did.”

Interestingly, following these incidents, Rowe found herself trending on social media. It seemed like people were more interested in discussing the sideline encounters than the nail-biting finish of the game itself between two powerhouse teams.
