On NBC’s “MTP Now” on Wednesday, NBC News chief political analyst Chuck Todd said that the Democratic vice presidential nominee in 2024, Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz (D), who avoided deploying to Iraq, “is a ridiculous accusation that his honor was stolen.”
Todd said:[A]At the very least, I think what the Trump campaign wants is to make it harder for him to send into the military community. For him to go to North Carolina, where he thinks he can help attract veterans, or go to Arizona or Georgia, so that at least this story will follow him. At least, someone will ask him about it. So this is one of those stories where all of a sudden the Harris campaign is not putting him in those places because they don’t want to. And maybe that’s exactly what the Trump campaign wants. This is something that can’t be debated here. He left when he left. Maybe he had kids and he thought, I’m not going, now is the time to go. I don’t think he’s going to be the first veteran to send into the military community. [has] “Harris has made that decision, including the fact that she served in the military and fulfilled the obligations that she agreed to in order to be eligible for VA benefits. But it’s probably going to be difficult for the Harris team to use him in this area specifically. That’s how I feel. I think that’s definitely what the Trump team is hoping for here.”
He continued: “I don’t think this is the kind of thing that would suggest we were here with weapons of war. I think it’s an unreasonable accusation to say we stole honor.”
