A burglar broke into an Oakland, California, store Tuesday when a pickup truck drove into the store’s door, marking the fourth time in recent months that robbers have targeted the store.
Eddie’s Drive-In Liquors on College Avenue near Lawton Avenue in the Rockridge neighborhood was robbed early Tuesday morning.
“I wish we could do something about it, but we can’t,” co-owner David Shrestha told KTVU.
Surveillance video showed a pickup truck repeatedly backing into the store around 3:50 a.m. Tuesday. Several intruders then enter and steal alcohol, cigarettes, two cash registers, and a safe.

“I can’t even express my feelings right now. I’m really, really angry,” Shrestha said, adding that she believed the same person may have been involved in each incident.
“It’s going to happen again and again and again. It’s happening, it’s going to happen again. No matter what we do,” he said.
Shrestha is frustrated that Oakland police are not allowed to pursue suspects who commit property crimes.
“If they see someone leaving, they can’t chase them. This was the first time that happened,” Shrestha said. “They saw them leave and didn’t chase them. When we asked, they said they weren’t allowed to chase people like that.”

Trader Joe’s, just a few blocks away, is also a target for people stealing alcohol.
In November, someone drove into the store, but fled after realizing the manager was inside.
“There are some serious challenges up and down the College Avenue corridor, to say the least,” City Councilman Dan Kalb, who represents Rockridge, told KTVU.

Kalb said the city is looking to recruit more officers from other agencies and seek assistance from the FBI.
“Enough is enough. We have to do more. And we’re going to do more. But unfortunately, the impact of doing more doesn’t happen overnight.” Kalb he said.
