Storm halts flights in Chicago; 2K-plus flights delayed across US

A deadly winter storm has grounded flights in Chicago, a major travel hub. According to the Federal Aviation Administration Air traffic control system command center.

The command center said “traffic management programs are in place” for traffic arriving at Chicago O'Hare International Airport due to the weather. The plan said the plan was causing some arriving flights to be “delayed by an average of two hours.”

National Weather Service (NWS) Weather Forecast Center mentioned in Friday's forecast discussion. A major winter storm will “bring heavy snow and blizzard conditions to the Midwest/Great Lakes.”

“More than a foot of snow could fall in parts of Wisconsin and Michigan into Saturday night, combined with strong winds in excess of 40 to 50 mph, creating blizzard conditions that will make travel nearly impossible. ” says the predictive argument.

The NWS said Thursday that an area stretching from eastern Nebraska to central Michigan could see “widespread snowfall totals of 6 to 12 inches within this Midwest corridor, with more than a foot of snow possible across northern Lower Michigan.” There is,” he said.

by Flight tracking website FlightAwareMore than 2,000 flights to and from the United States were delayed on Friday. More than 1,700 flights have been canceled, according to FlightAware.

The NWS said yesterday that “severe weather” is also possible in the Deep South and Southeast until late Friday.

“In addition to the primary threat of damaging wind gusts, this also includes the threat of tornadoes,” according to the forecast.

“In terms of potential for heavy rain, the overall rainfall from this event is more common than what occurred earlier this week across much of the East Coast, due to faster advancing moisture plumes and lighter precipitation. It seems that there are few.”
