Secaucus Police Respond to Daytime “Riot” over Weekend
A chaotic scene unfolded in Secaucus this past weekend, where a significant number of cars took over local streets while individuals fired off fireworks, leading to disturbances late into the night. Police reported a call around 2 a.m. on Sunday, indicating that over 100 people were driving recklessly and performing stunts at a busy intersection.
Upon arrival, officers found some individuals climbing onto police cars, which led to a crowd of more than 50 surrounding the vehicles, resulting in damage to the cruisers. It seems that some of the participants used the police vehicles as platforms for their displays of fireworks.
Local authorities noted that this kind of behavior, fueled by social media, has the potential to cause significant disruption as it echoes across the nation, prompting business closures and public safety concerns.
Several nearby agencies were called in to help manage the situation, and thankfully, no officers reported injuries during the incident. Secaucus Police Chief, Dennis Miller, commended the department for their restraint during the chaotic scene.
Bearing in mind the recent surge of similar incidents, Miller stated, “Our officers faced aggression last night, and I won’t accept this unrest. I will allocate resources from various departments to form a focused effort to identify those responsible for this disruption and bring them to justice.”
Authorities are actively reaching out to the public for assistance in identifying suspects observed in video footage from the event. Anyone with information is encouraged to contact the police.
