Istanbul:
Türkiye’s AFAD Disaster Bureau said a strong earthquake, magnitude 6.2, had shaken Istanbul on Wednesday.
There were no immediate reports of damage, but people evacuated the buildings as Quake hit and rocked cities on the European and Asian coasts of the Strait of Boshols.
The epicenter of the earthquake that hit 12:49 (0949 GMT) was located in the Silibri area, approximately 80 km (50 miles) west of Istanbul. According to AFAD, it was 6.92 km (4.3 miles).
Broadcasting station TGRT reported that one person was injured as a result of jumping off a balcony during an earthquake that occurred during a public holiday in Turkey.
The AFAD warned local people against entering damaged buildings.
The German Center for Geoscience Research (GFZ) said it was 6.02 in size for earthquakes. It was 10 km (6.21 miles) deep, as GFZ said.
