‘Strongly Suspect’ We’ll Do October 1 Debate with Walz, I Want Multiple Debates with Him

On Fox News Channel’s “The Ingraham Angle” broadcast Wednesday, Sen. J.D. Vance (R-Ohio), a Republican candidate for vice president in 2024, said he would “strongly” like to debate Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz (D) on CBS on October 1, but “I’m not going to do a debate where there’s no real audience, where the proper conditions are set up for the exchange of ideas.” He added, “There should be more than one debate. So hopefully you’ll see him debate on October 1, but hopefully you’ll see him debate before or after that, because I think it’s important for the American people to actually see us debate our ideas.”

Vance said, “Laura, we’re definitely going to debate Tim Walz. I just heard about it three hours ago. So I’ll talk to them and figure out when we can debate. I believe there should be more than one debate. So hopefully I’ll see him on October 1st, but hopefully I’ll see him before or after, because I think it’s important for the American people to see us actually debate our views.”

Moderator Laura Ingraham went on to ask, “Now, Senator, is there any question that you’re not going to debate Mr. Walz on October 1st?”

Vance responded, “Laura, we are actually looking at a debate, a moderator, and we want to talk a little bit about the rules. CBS literally contacted us about this three hours ago. I just got back from a rally and press conference in Michigan, and I strongly believe we’ll be there on October 1st. But Laura, we’re not going to have a fake debate, where there won’t be a real audience, and the parameters aren’t set up in a proper way to allow for an exchange of ideas. In other words, we’re not going to rush into some fake news media trash debate. We’re going to have a real debate, and if CBS agrees, then of course we will.”
