A college student was “killed almost instantly” when a car part flew off the back of a truck and smashed through the windshield of his car on a Georgia highway.
Autumn McClure, 20, was in the passenger seat of her boyfriend, Tyler Nunley’s, car on Wednesday to take her brother to daycare when a brake caliper popped off the back of the truck, family members said.
The bullet struck her in the chest and neck, killing her “almost instantly,” her family said in a heartbreaking post.
“My beautiful sister Autumn McClure tragically passed away this morning in a terrible car accident,” her sister Simone Massaly wrote in a Facebook post.
“My family and I can’t believe it,” she said. “It still doesn’t seem real.”
The unusual incident happened on I-75 in Ringgold, Georgia. Police are investigating the incident but have not released any details. WTVC reported.
Photos shared online showed a grey Hyundai with a broken windshield and a large hole in it.
McClure, who was born and raised in Soddy Daisy, Tennessee, just north of the Georgia state line, died before emergency responders arrived, his brother, Collin Lee, said in a Facebook post.
“Please take a moment to call a loved one or sibling,” Le wrote, “and if you are driving a truck with a load on the back, please take a moment to consider the potential risk that the load could fly out and injure someone.”
McClure also has a twin sister, Ivy, who would have turned 21 next month. “All I can say is I love you and will miss you for the rest of my life,” Ivy wrote on Facebook. “You will always be my other half.”
Besides McClure, he is survived by his mother, another brother, nieces and the “love of his life,” Nunley.
“Autumn, you were the most wonderful, brightest thing in my life,” her heartbroken boyfriend said. he wrote in an Instagram post.
“I was always so excited to come home and see you, say hello, hug you, pick you up, hear about your day and what happened at work, and most of all, give you that daily foot massage that you loved so much,” Nunley said.
“I hope you all will watch over me and help me become stronger,” he added.
Autumn was the valedictorian for Soddy Daisy High School’s Class of 2022 and was enrolled in the graphic design program at Chattanooga State Community College. GoFundMe page Hosted by Le.
“As teachers, we aren’t supposed to have favorites, but Autumn was one of my brightest stars,” says Emily Bassett, one of McClure’s graphic arts professors at Chattanooga State University. wrote on social media.
“She had a great future and I was so looking forward to seeing her sweet face this Monday,” Bassett wrote.
