A 17-year-old female student was grazed in the head by a stray bullet that flew through the window of a Washington, D.C. school classroom Friday morning during a fierce gunfight outside the facility.
Police said the victim suffered non-life-threatening injuries when bullets rained down on Dunbar High School just before 10 a.m.
She was rushed to the hospital, where she is currently receiving treatment and is expected to make a full recovery, police said.

The school is on lockdown and there is no shooter inside the school. Dunbar High School is approximately 2.4 miles east of downtown Washington, DC.
Third District Commander James Boteler said at a news conference that the shocking incident occurred when rival suspects clashed outside the school and exchanged gunfire.
“Several bullets went through the glass windows in Dunbar,” Boteler said, adding that he believes the victim was in the classroom at the time.
“A vehicle drove the wrong way in the 1200 block of Kirby Street Northwest. When the vehicle was about halfway down the block, there was a series of gunshots, followed by several more.”
“At this time, we believe there was a gunfight between individuals on that block. However, the motive remains unknown.”

Police say the shooting was not aimed at the school. The number of suspects involved in the shooting is unknown and remains at large.
Neighbors told Fox 5 DC they heard gunfire and it sounded like automatic gunfire.
“While I was sitting there with my window open looking at my kids, about 20, 30 shots were fired…we knew right away…we’re used to this,” said a veteran who served in Afghanistan. said this resident.
“We’ve heard this over and over again in this area…this is not okay.”
Furious residents continued to accuse city officials of not prosecuting enough suspects for gun crimes.

Residents say drug use and crime are on the rise in the area (Fox 5 DC)
Mayor Bowser arrived at the scene but has not yet said anything about the incident, Fox 5 reported.
Joyce Robinson-Paul, a member of the local Neighborhood Advisory Board, said the area was “under assault” with gun crime and drugs.
“It takes a few shots before everyone realizes this area is under siege,” Robinson-Paul said.
“How did this happen, you bad leaders? We need good people who care about the kids.”
