A petition has been initiated to dissolve the Turning Point USA chapter at Rutgers University. The group claims that these conservative organizations are fostering “hate speech” and creating a “toxic environment.”
This petition, launched earlier this week, alleges that the TPUSA chapter is inciting violence and instilling fear within the community. Sponsored by Alexander Di Filippo, the petition expresses concern over recent changes observed at the university, which he describes as disturbing.
Di Filippo, a former student at Rochester Institute of Technology studying game design and development, has stated that the educational environment in New Jersey has traditionally been inclusive. He emphasizes the importance of valuing diversity and respecting all individuals, regardless of their backgrounds.
He notes, however, that the TPUSA chapter has engaged in promoting hostility and has had serious repercussions, citing an incident where a respected professor reportedly felt compelled to leave the country due to intimidation attributed to this group.
The petition calls for the immediate disbandment of the Turning Point USA chapter as a means to uphold educational excellence and ensure safety and inclusivity for everyone on campus. As of Wednesday, the petition had accumulated 1,679 signatures.
In a related development, there has been another petition started by the Turning Point USA chapter, which calls for Rutgers professor Mark Bray’s dismissal due to his previous statements supporting Antifa. Bray, who has written extensively on anti-fascism, mentioned he plans to relocate his family to Europe out of concerns for their safety.
Supporters of Turning Point USA argue that allowing such groups to operate on campus contradicts the core values of respect and diversity. They claim the actions of the TPUSA chapter create division, which undermines the educational principles they strive to maintain.
Turning Point officials have responded to the petition, labeling it defamatory. Efforts are ongoing to reach out to Rutgers and Di Filippo for further comments.
