Surprising Developments in the 2026 Winter Olympics
One of the most unusual tales from the 2026 Winter Olympics has taken an unexpected twist.
Norwegian biathlete Sturla Holm Rägerid, who recently made waves after confessing to an affair during a live interview in hopes of reconciling with an ex-girlfriend, secured a silver medal in the men’s 12.5km biathlon pursuit at the Milan-Cortina Winter Games this past Sunday.
At 28, Rägerid opened up about his infidelity shortly after winning his first medal, a bronze in the 20km biathlon earlier in the week. In an emotional post-race chat with Norwegian media, he described it as “the worst week of my life,” overshadowing what should have been a triumphant moment.
“Six months ago, I met the love of my life, the most beautiful and kindest person in the world,” he shared. “Three months ago, I made a huge mistake and cheated on my girlfriend, which I confessed to her about a week ago.”
Not long after, his former partner expressed regret over her actions, particularly after facing backlash from an anonymous ex-girlfriend for exposing their private matters. “Forgiveness is hard, even when love is declared in every way possible,” she told a Norwegian tabloid.
She also mentioned, “I didn’t choose to be in this situation, and it’s painful to be here.” She added that they’ve been in communication and he understands her feelings about the ordeal.
Meanwhile, Rägerid continued to capture media attention, winning another bronze medal in the men’s 10km sprint soon after.
When asked how he balanced his professional ambitions with personal challenges, Rägerid stated he was simply trying to focus on “the right thing at the right time.” A six-time world champion, he previously secured gold as part of Norway’s biathlon relay team at the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics.
