Former Texas Substitute Teacher Arrested
A former substitute teacher in Texas has been arrested, facing charges for an alleged inappropriate relationship with a student, as reported by authorities.
Angela Palmares, aged 27, was taken into custody on Tuesday after the Llano Independent School District alerted law enforcement about the suspected relationship. This was confirmed in a post by the Llano County Sheriff’s Department, although they didn’t respond immediately to inquiries.
Palmares is currently being held on a bail of $150,000, according to jail records.
Following the notification from the school district, an investigation was launched. Palmares had last worked for the district on April 2, and due to these allegations, she was removed from the list of potential substitute teachers.
In a letter addressed to families, Superintendent Mac Edwards explained that the former substitute had engaged in “inappropriate communications with students via social media, particularly outside school hours.” The district is also in contact with families of affected students.
“The district takes all allegations seriously and is dedicated to ensuring a safe and supportive environment for students,” Edwards noted. He also highlighted that, due to privacy and human resources concerns, further details were not available.
No additional information has been disclosed by either the school district or the sheriff’s office as the Llano County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigation Division began looking into the matter, conducting interviews and reviewing evidence, which eventually resulted in an arrest warrant.
The Division of Criminal Investigation collaborated with the Texas Department of Public Safety Fusion Center to locate Palmares in Bell County.
Palmares is facing charges for an Improper Relationship between Educator and Student, classified as a second-degree felony. The Sheriff’s Office is urging anyone with information regarding the case or potential victims to reach out to them for an interview with an investigator from the Criminal Investigation Division. The investigation is ongoing.
