Succession Plan Announcement

This morning, we shared our succession plan with everyone involved in our firm.

As soon as the news hit, my inbox exploded with questions, the most common being, “Are you retiring?!?”

No, not retiring—I’ll get to that.

So why did we announce this? Well, as a financial planning firm, it’s crucial for us to demonstrate integrity. If we tell our clients to think ahead and create solid estate and business continuity plans, we need to do the same.

From our start, when we were a small team of five, we invited essential employees to share in the partnership. This has always been funded through our own money and bank lines of credit, without outside investors. By our tenth anniversary, we had 20 partners, which grew to 26 by 2024, and now, we’re at 29 this year.

We’re aiming to be the nation’s best employee-owned advisory firm.

As for my routine, everything remains consistent. I’m still serving as chairman and chief investment officer, going into the office as often as before, managing our Bloomber pod, blogging, speaking at events, and even writing a book.

What will change? Many of our RWM Rockstars are now part-owners, and we expect this trend to continue over the next decade.

On a personal note, it’s like upgrading your old car to something with modern features. I recently found a watch I’ve wanted for a while and decided to purchase it, plus I added more municipal bonds to my personal investments. But overall, not much has shifted…

Over the last 12 years, we’ve dedicated ourselves to putting clients first. Each day, we share our honest insights on how to manage portfolios and financial lives. We offer this guidance to the public for free and tailor it specifically for our clients. I’ve been doing public communication since the late ’90s and intend to continue as long as I can produce thoughtful content.

I’m genuinely excited about what we’ve achieved so far and curious to see what our team will accomplish over the next decade.
