Immigrants have been disproportionately arrested for British sexual offences, and groups of foreigners, like countries in Africa and the Middle East, are highly overrepresented in suspected sex offenders.
Data collected from police in England and Wales through freedom of information request By Daily Mail It has discovered that at least 8,500 foreigners have been arrested on suspicion of rape or other sexual offences over the past year.
In total, police have arrested 44,000 people on suspicion of such a crime. That is, immigrants were charged with more than a fifth of sexual offence claims, despite accounting for around 16.8% of the population per 2021 census.
The data did not include people with double British citizenship or second or third generation migrants, suggesting that the impact of immigration on sex crimes could actually be much higher, as some reviews argue while disrupting ambiguous government data.
The gap between British and foreigners becomes even more severe when broken down by nationality, and immigrant cohorts are highly likely to be arrested in connection with sexual offences.
Sudanese immigrants are most likely to be arrested on suspicion of rape or other sexual offences, at a rate of 1,200 arrests per 100,000 people. This was compared to just 55 per 100,000 British. This means that foreigners in African countries are more than 20 times more likely to be arrested for sexual offences than British people.
The paper noted that if the arrest rates of Sudanese immigrants were applied to indigenous peoples in England and Wales, it would amount to about half a million arrests for sexual offences alone.
People from Afghanistan represent the second most common nationality arrested on suspicion of sexual offences, at a rate of 1,009 per 100,000. Afghanis was followed by immigration from Eritrea, Iran and Iraq. In contrast, immigrants from Canada and Germany had sex crime arrest rates of 37 and 32 per 1,000 respectively.
Different arrest rates among different ethnic groups found in other studies have led to the suggestion that the government should reduce immigration from risk countries to prevent more criminals from being imported into the UK.
Shadow Justice’s secretary Robert Jenrik said, “Not only does mass migration make us poor, but this data proves that we are dramatically decreasing safety. We need to fundamentally reduce overall migration, but we also need to overhaul our security reviews.”
A Conservative MP added: “It is not surprising that immigrants from cultures with a backward attitude towards women are more likely to commit sex crimes in the UK.
“If we are serious about dealing with violence against women and girls, then we need an immigration system that takes that into consideration and puts the safety of the British people first.”
It also asks the government to publish complete statistics on the ethnic and immigration background of British crime, as is done in other European countries such as Denmark.
“The police have clearly recorded this data. This is extremely important information and can be used to significantly improve how the immigration system works,” said the research director at the think tank Rob Bates Center at the Immigration Control Center.
“But political choices are being made by officials to try to ignore the evidence.”
