Suffolk County officers helped a pregnant mother give birth to a baby girl Monday after giving birth on the side of the highway and in the middle of a storm.
Three new officers answered a 911 call, according to a press release from the Suffolk County Police Department.
Officers Joseph Lacey, Brendan Nappi and Jonathan Verity from the seventh district rushed to the scene and helped the 37-year-old woman safely deliver a baby girl while she was huddled with the Honda Accord through heavy rain.
All three officers had just graduated from Suffolk County Police Academy on Friday.
The trio wrapped the newborn in blankets just before the EMS arrived and carried the mom and daughter to Stony Brook University Hospital.
Police say the mother and baby are healthy and healthy.
Police and New Yorkers alike intervened to help women who entered work in less times and places than ideal.
