Sunbather impaled by umbrella in freak Florida beach accident

A woman sunbathing on a Florida beach was recently impaled and killed by an out-of-control umbrella, local authorities said.

Sybil Licht was visiting Cocoa Beach with her family when a rented umbrella flew off the sand and toward her family. WESH reportedciting a release from the Cocoa Beach Police Department.

Authorities said the umbrella stick impaled Richt in his leg.

Rescue workers had to use bolt cutters to remove the umbrella from the pole, but it remained lodged in the victim’s body. authorities told Fox News Digital..

As of Wednesday afternoon, it was unclear how the freak accident happened or what Licht’s current condition was.

Cocoa Beach police told The Post that the scene was responded to by Brevard County Fire Rescue and the Cocoa Beach Fire Department.

The incident is believed to have happened on Saturday, but police were unable to confirm the date.

The Fire and Rescue Service and the fire department did not respond to The Post’s requests for comment on the incident.
