Sundance Film Festival moving to Boulder from Park City

The Sundance Film Festival announced in 2027 that it will move from Park City, Utah (the home for over 40 years) to Boulder, Colorado, according to organizers.

“Boulder is Arttown, Technology Town, Mountain Town and College Town. It's a place where festivals can build and thrive.” I said In a press release on Thursday.

“This is the beginning of a bold, new journey to invite everyone to be part of our community, to be entertained and inspired,” Kelso added. “I can't imagine a better fit than a boulder.”

The year-long process to find your next host includes seeing the finalist city's “infrastructure, ethos, equity values, and event capabilities” and each spot “sustainably serves and supports the festival's ever-growing community of independent artists and audiences.”

Apart from Boulder, a city with a population of 100,000 near Denver, the other two finalists were Cincinnati, Ohio and Salt Lake City, Utah.

“This decision was informed by a detailed assessment of key elements essential to creating our festival. In the process it became clear that Boulder is the ideal place to build the future of the festival and marks an important strategic step in natural evolution.”

Founded in 1978 by Robert Redford, the influential film festival takes place at the Boulder Center, and the Institute seeks to take advantage of various venues, theatres and spaces around Pearl Street Mall.

The annual festival is home to a host of acclaimed film artists, celebrities and movie fans.

Colorado Governor Jared Police (D) and Boulder Mayor Aaron Brockett were excited about the organiser's choice, but Utah Gov. Spencer Cox (R) argued that the decision to leave Utah was “a mistake.”

“Like I said from the beginning, we wanted to keep Sundance. We made it clear to their leadership and put together a very competitive package,” Cox wrote Thursday. post X. “In the end, this decision belongs to them. But I will realize that it was a mistake and one day they left their legacy, not just a place.”
