Sunday shows preview: Charlie Kirk's assassination shocks the country

The recent assassination of conservative activist Charlie Kirk in Utah has sent shockwaves across the nation.

Kirk, who co-founded Turning Point USA, was speaking at an event at Utah Valley University in Orem when he was shot and killed. Following a manhunt involving local, state, and federal authorities, officials identified the suspect on Friday as 22-year-old Tyler Robinson, a resident of Utah.

The killing drew widespread condemnation from lawmakers on both sides of the political aisle.

Kirk’s widow, Erica, reflected on her husband’s impact, expressing conviction that the causes he championed will endure. “If I had thought my husband’s mission before, you wouldn’t know,” she shared on Friday, implying there was more to come. “You don’t understand the kind of fire this has ignited in me,” she added, emphasizing that the movement her husband stood for would persist.

During the investigation, law enforcement recovered a rifle identified as a Moser 98 .30-06 caliber. Additionally, they found casings with provocative messages. One said “Hey fascist!” while another referenced the folk song “Bella Ciao,” and a third had the playful remark, “If you read this, you’re gay, Lmao,” according to Utah Governor Spencer Cox.

Robinson is reported to be a junior at Dixie Institute of Technology.

Governor Cox is scheduled to appear on several news programs, including ABC’s “This Week” and NBC’s “Meet the Press,” to discuss the shooting investigation.

In a separate development, President Trump announced his plan to send the National Guard to Memphis, Tennessee, as part of efforts to tackle crime in the area. He mentioned that even the city’s Democratic mayor is supportive of the decision.

Meanwhile, over in Poland, the country activated Article 4 of the North Atlantic Treaty after intercepting several Russian drones that had breached its airspace, prompting concerns among NATO allies.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky criticized the presence of drones from Russia, while the Romanian Air Force deployed F-16s to monitor the situation.

Senator Lindsey Graham, a staunch advocate for Ukraine, will address ongoing developments in the Russian-Ukrainian conflict.

Trump reiterated his demand for NATO allies to stop buying Russian oil, indicating readiness to enforce sanctions against Russia.
