Sunday shows preview: Trump-Harris showdown heats up

With less than 90 days until the general election, the showdown between Vice President Harris and former President Trump and their campaign teams is likely to be a focus of this Sunday’s programming.

Sen. J.D. Vance (R-Ohio), who was selected last month as Trump’s running mate, is scheduled to appear on several shows, including ABC’s “This Week,” CBS’ “Face the Nation” and CNN’s “State of the Union,” where he is expected to discuss the race.

Vance has criticized the military record of Harris’ running mate, Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz (D), accusing him of “having his honor stolen” after Republicans accused Walz of inflating his rank when he retired and claiming to have served in war when he never did.

Vance is also expected to talk about upcoming debates: Walz said this week he was looking forward to debating the Ohio senator, while Trump announced he will participate in several debates with Harris next month.

Republican National Committee Chairman Michael Whatley is scheduled to appear on Fox News’ “Sunday Morning Futures” and is expected to discuss last month’s Republican convention and the countdown to Election Day.

Whatley has previously said it “doesn’t matter” which Democratic candidate Trump faces because whoever Democrats choose will support the same policies as a Biden administration. He’s likely to talk about the recent enthusiasm for Harris’ campaign, as seen in donations, rally attendance and polls.

Two former Democratic presidential candidates are scheduled to appear on the show this week.

Sen. Amy Klobuchar (D-Minn.) will appear on ABC’s “This Week” and likely debate Harris’ running mate choice with fellow Minnesota senator Walz.

Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg, who has been rumored to be running alongside Harris, is scheduled to appear on CNN’s “State of the Union” and is expected to continue defending Harris’ ability to beat Trump and her choice of Walz.

The latest polls show Ms. Harris leading Mr. Trump by 4 points in three battleground states, her campaign is breaking donation records and voters are enthusiastic about her and Walz taking on former President Trump this fall.

Pollster Whit Ayers is scheduled to appear on NewsNation’s “The Hill Sunday” and is expected to analyze the latest polling since Biden dropped out of the race and Harris took over.
