Sunny Hostin Says She Filled Out Her Son’s Absentee Ballot

“The View” co-host Sunny Hostin said during Tuesday’s panel that she filled out her son’s absentee ballot.

Co-host Whoopi Goldberg caught Hostin texting on her iPhone during the panel as she communicated with her son. Her son reportedly reached out to Hostin to make sure that she sent in his absentee ballot.

“I had trouble actually voting for him on the absentee ballot today and that made me very concerned. I was told to put it in an orange bag on the floor and the orange bag looked to me like a Target bag or something, and I said isn’t there a formal election box that says absentee ballot or something like that and then she said ‘let me check’ and then found it. So that concerned me.”

Laws on an individual filling out and submitting another’s absentee ballot varies by state, according to the National Conference of State Legislatures. In 31 states, cases where a voter cannot return the ballot in person or to a postal facility, they may entrust in another person to return it. States, such as Alabama, do not allow for a designated person to fill out or return the ballot. The laws are unspecified in New York, where Hostin and her family reside, according to the National Conference of State Legislatures. Most states allow a designated agent or family member to legally assist the voter.

Many voters are using absentee ballots in the midterm elections, which has become a major trend among Democrats since the pandemic. In Philadelphia, at least 3,400 mail-in ballots could potentially be rejected due to incorrect information and missing dates on the envelopes. The Pennsylvania Supreme Court ruled in October that state officials must disqualify any ballots with incorrect information.
