Sunny skies forecast for London Marathon as warm spell comes to UK | UK weather

A clear skies are expected for runners crossing the finish line of the London Marathon on Sunday, as forecasters predict the start of a warm, calm spell in most of the UK.

The Met Office said temperatures in the capital are expected to peak at around 22c on race day. For runners leaving in the morning, early situations can be cooler and more comfortable.

Similar conditions are also predicted in Manchester, which will host the marathon on Sunday. A high of 17C is expected with a sunlight spell.

Oli Claydon of Met Office said the conditions are expected to remain favorable. “The marathons in both Manchester and London look dry. Temperature is not a morning issue, but temperatures accumulate during the day.”

The broader UK outlook varies. Rain is expected to travel across Northern Ireland overnight to Scotland and Cornwall west and west of Scotland and Cornwall, with winds to the south.

The central and eastern parts of the UK may remain dry, but areas of clouds, mist and frost can occur overnight under clearness.

By Saturday, patchy rain bands are projected to move east through Scotland, England and Wales, followed by bright spells, particularly in the north. Conditions are expected to become warmer and calmer.

On Sunday, the southern and eastern parts of the UK will experience long spells of dry weather and sunshine, while the northern regions may continue to see an increase in scattered showers and cloud cover.

By Monday, a 24C high would be possible in southeast England, with weather patterns blocked, and further increases are expected as warm air will be lifted from the European continent.

By the middle of the week, temperatures are expected to reach 25-27c in parts of southeastern and central England, potentially causing the warmest weather this year to date.

Such conditions are not unprecedented in April, but are the highest since 2018. The UK’s April temperature record set in London in 1949 may remain intact.

The warm climate spell is expected to last until next week, but changes in the pressure system could bring cool conditions and shower possibilities to some areas by next weekend.
