Suns’ Kevin Durant becomes 8th player in NBA history to score 30,000 points in loss to the Grizzlies

Kevin Durant continues to engrave his name in NBA history books.

Durant, 36, scored 30,000 points for the eighth player in NBA history when he hit a free throw late in the third quarter in a 119-122 loss to the Phoenix Suns on Tuesday did.

Durant will join LeBron James, Kareem Abdul Jabal, Karl Malone, Kobe Bryant, Michael Jordan, Dirk Nowicki and Wilt Chamberlain at the 30,000-point club.

Julius Erving will surpass the 30,000-point mark when combined with points scored in the NBA and ABA.

“It's a real honor to be in the same category as the players who helped shape the game and moved the game forward,” Durant said. “It has always been my goal: to make the most of myself every day and make the most of my career.

The 14 All-Star averaged over 27 points per game this season, shooting 52.8% off the field and 40.4% beyond the arc.

Listed at 6 feet 11, Durant defended his entire 17-year career with the best shooting ability while dominating the paint.

The four-time scoring champion was drafted by the Seattle Supersonics on the second-place overall pick in the 2007 NBA Draft, leading to hype.

In nine seasons with the Oklahoma City Thunder franchise, he scored 17,566 points. In three seasons with the Golden State Warriors, he scored 5,374 points.

During his three seasons with Brooklyn Net, he scored 3,744 points and 3,324 points in three seasons with the Phoenix with the Suns.

Durant won the MVP from 2013 to 2014, leading the league in scoring, averaging 32 points per game.

“It's special for everyone around him every day,” Sands coach Mike Budenholzer said. “I think we're surprised by him. The way he comes to work, the time he goes in, the attention to detail, the effort. It's translated to 30,000 points. He's just a special player. , I'm a special person.”

Durant scored 34 points in a 12-18 shooting at the Suns' loss.

The Suns are No. 11th in the 26-27 Western Conference and will try to turn things around when they play the Houston Rockets on Wednesday at 8:30pm.
