Super Bowl Sunday: A Major Event for Fans and Advertisers

Super Bowl Sunday is truly one of the highlights of the year.

This year, the matchup features the New England Patriots and the Seattle Seahawks, but it’s not just about the teams. There’s a whole industry focused on the commercials that air during the game.

The costs are significant.

The Super Bowl continues to be the most-viewed television event annually, a fact backed by the league’s Nielsen ratings. Last year’s Super Bowl LIX saw the Philadelphia Eagles securing a decisive win with a score of 40-22, making it a historic match. With over 127 million people tuning in, it became the most-watched Super Bowl ever.

With such a large audience, companies face stiff competition and high prices to get their ads in front of viewers.

According to Adweek, the going rate for a 30-second slot during Super Bowl LX has jumped to $8 million. NBC started by offering these spots for $7 million earlier in the summer, but due to high demand, they have already filled their quota for upfront ads.

This pricing matches what was charged last year. Data from Statista shows that the increase to $8 million is up by $1 million from both Super Bowl LVII and LVIII.

Interestingly, $8 million isn’t even the ceiling. Some advertisers are reportedly spending over $10 million, as noted by Mike Marshall from NBCUniversal during a recent appearance on The Varsity podcast.

It’s intriguing to consider the historical context here. This upcoming game is a rematch of Super Bowl 49 from 2015, where a 30-second spot only cost $4.25 million.

And now, prices have nearly doubled.
