Super Bowl champion head coach Tony Dungy took a victory lap Tuesday night after Florida's abortion amendment failed to garner enough support to pass.

The bill would require a 60% supermajority to pass, the highest standard in the country. The proposal was rejected, with 43% voting “no” and 57% voting “yes.”

Dungey, who opposed the amendment, praised its failure. The former head coach of the Indianapolis Colts and Tampa Bay Buccaneers also praised voters for failing to pass the Third Amendment legalizing marijuana.

“Voting has closed in Florida and neither the Third nor the Fourth Amendment passed,” he wrote to X.

“We want to thank all the Floridians who stepped up to save the lives of unborn babies, and we want people to know that pregnant women who need help can still get it. Healthy Pregnant women at risk can also receive treatment. There are exceptions,” because rape and incest still exist. But this is a victory for the baby. ”

Florida's abortion ban is also controversial in the former battleground state, with supporters of the amendment arguing that the Sunshine State's current six-week abortion ban has become more restrictive since it went into effect in May. He argued that it was too much.

The text of the proposed amendment states, “No law shall prohibit, penalize, or delay abortion before viability or, in the judgment of the patient's health care provider, if necessary to protect the health of the patient.'' shall not be restricted or restricted.”

Florida is one of nine states that put measures on the Nov. 5 ballot to protect access to abortion. In Florida, the initiative needed at least 60% support, while other states needed a simple majority to pass.

Most of these ballot measures seek to amend initiatives passed in Republican-led states where state leaders have moved to restrict abortion in the wake of the Supreme Court's June 2022 ruling on Roe. are.
