Ndamukong Suh Announces Retirement from NFL
Former Super Bowl champion Ndamukong Suh shared that he is retiring from the NFL. The announcement came on a Saturday, and at 38 years old, Suh last played in the 2022 season for the Philadelphia Eagles. He reflected on his decision, stating that it honors a wish from his late father.
In a heartfelt message, Suh mentioned, “July 12, 2024, was the most difficult day of my life. It was the day I said goodbye to my father, who raised me, shaped me, challenged me, and believed in me.” It seems clear that this relationship played a significant role in his life and career.
Suh was the second overall pick in the 2010 NFL Draft, selected by the Detroit Lions, where he excelled as a defensive tackle. He made the Pro Bowl four times during his tenure with the Lions. Over the years, he played five seasons with Detroit, followed by three with the Miami Dolphins, one with the Los Angeles Rams, and then three seasons with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. His last year was spent with the Eagles.
Notably, Suh was part of the Buccaneers squad that secured victory in Super Bowl LV, contributing critical defensive plays during the playoffs. Over those postseason games, he amassed ten tackles and 1.5 sacks.
Throughout his career, he recorded impressive stats: 600 tackles, 71.5 sacks, one interception, five forced fumbles, and three touchdown recoveries. As he steps away from professional football, he expressed that while soccer was his passion, he never considered it his ultimate goal.
Suh’s journey reflects a deep respect for his roots and the lessons imparted by his father, encapsulating how personal relationships can significantly influence one’s career and choices.
