Super Bowl MVP explains why quarterbacks thrive with a different team

NFL Quarterbacks Finding New Life with Different Teams

In recent years, several NFL quarterbacks have rejuvenated their careers after moving to new teams. Notable examples include Geno Smith with the Seattle Seahawks and Baker Mayfield, who has had stints with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Minnesota Vikings. Sam Darnold and Daniel Jones have also made their marks after shifting teams, including Jones’s current situation with the Indianapolis Colts.

Super Bowl MVP Nick Foles expressed that he isn’t surprised to see these quarterbacks succeed elsewhere, especially after facing initial challenges. Foles remarked, “It’s not unexpected to watch quarterbacks leave struggling teams and thrive in new environments.” He pointed out that not all teams operate like the Kansas City Chiefs, Philadelphia Eagles, Buffalo Bills, or Baltimore Ravens.

Foles highlighted the importance of strong leadership, from owners to coaches, as essential for a team’s success. He reflected on his experiences, reiterating that a great coach can significantly influence player performance and team dynamics. “When I was with the Chiefs in 2016 and the Eagles in 2017, the support from my coaches was crucial. A positive locker room environment matters as much as strategy,” Foles explained.

He also remarked on the New York Giants’ ongoing struggles, observing that Saquon Barkley and Daniel Jones had found success after leaving the organization. “The Giants have faced challenges season after season. Everyone talked about Barkley’s injury history, but he’s proved he can be a top player,” Foles noted.

Looking at Daniel Jones, Foles mentioned how he fit well into the Colts’ system, suggesting stability within the organization helps quarterbacks focus on their game. “When everything around them is solid, they can really shine,” he added.

Foles continued to praise Carson Wentz, who is now with the Minnesota Vikings, for his performance in a recent game against the Cincinnati Bengals. “Seeing quarterbacks excel in new settings is gratifying,” he said, emphasizing how Wentz succeeded without needing to take unnecessary risks.

Having spent 11 seasons in the NFL across six teams, Foles has firsthand experience of how various organizations operate. He played five years with the Eagles and was named Super Bowl MVP for his standout performance against the New England Patriots. With 71 games played, including 58 starts, Foles holds a record of 29-29, with a completion rate of 62.4%, throwing for 82 touchdowns over 14,227 yards and recording 47 interceptions.
