Self-proclaimed “super mayor” Tiffany Henyard has vetoed a resolution calling for an investigation into her spending following allegations that she diverted $1 million of her tax money to luxury travel and police departments.
The Village Board of Dalton, Illinois, voted unanimously to open an investigation into Mr. Henyard, requiring him to turn over the village’s financial records and asking the FBI to conduct its own investigation.
But Henyard vetoed it on Monday, arguing that the resolution was the result of a personal attack against her and stemmed from one-sided lore.
“As you can see, our village, our community, and myself are under attack.” Henyard told the village board meeting.. “It’s a shame when people come to meetings and only tell one side of the story and don’t get the full story on both sides.”
Henyard claims the village board is a “boys’ club” that doesn’t want women like her to lead, and Henyard says she will “fight back” against the alleged defamation of her. I swore.
“I’m always going to fight for what’s right and I’m always going to stay on track. And when all the dust clears, I’ll be victorious,” she added.
At the village board meeting, the beleaguered mayor also acknowledged a $2 million deficit due to Dalton owing more than $427,000 for road paving and another $400,000 for tree removal services. Local WGN9 reported.
Village board members, who vowed to override the village’s veto at next month’s meeting, argued the deficit was millions of dollars higher than Henyard’s estimate.
“The mayor can blame everyone for what’s going on, but he has to look at himself,” former Trustee Edward Steve said during a heated meeting Monday.
Vivian Allen was one of the residents who came out to criticize the mayor and echoed the village board’s call for him to resign to save Dalton’s finances.
“You guys lied to us, the residents. You’re not, you don’t support me,” she said. “And I ask you to resign as mayor today and save our village from this deficit you have caused.”
Although the village has not yet formally asked the FBI to investigate Mr. Henyard, federal agents are already in Dalton and are said to be interviewing the mayor’s alleged victims.
Last month, resident Lawrence Gardner, 57, told the Post that he went to the FBI office after Henyard shut down his trucking business for refusing to renew a $3,500 political contribution.
The FBI told Gardner that it had received numerous complaints against Henyard.
Henyard is accused of spending taxpayer money on lavish and unnecessary trips and shelling out more than $1 million for a police detail, then using its members to exact revenge against people he considered enemies. has been done.
The former burger joint owner turned local politician has also been known to attend rallies dressed as a movie gangster to intimidate his critics.
Henyard once channeled drug lord nino brown From the 1991 gangster movie “New Jack City” at the 2023 rally.
“People look at politics like a joke, and now it’s kind of a mockery because of things like this,” Dolton Village Trustee Kiana Belcher told the Post. “She comes to board meetings dressed like Nino Brown.”
