Support for an “assault weapons” ban is below levels seen in the previous two polls, and support for a handgun ban is “statistically tied” to record low levels of support, it said Monday. This was revealed in the results published by Gallup.
The survey was conducted from October 1 to 12, 2024.

The paper noted that Democrats remain the driving force behind banning “assault weapons,” with 82% of Democrats supporting gun control compared to just 27% of Republicans.
Support for banning handguns has fallen to 20%. Thirty-three percent of Democrats support such a ban, compared to 6% of Republicans.
The Democratic approval rating of 33% is an all-time low for the Democratic Party.
