Support from both parties endorses Mikie Sherrill for the New Jersey governor campaign

Endorsements for Mikie Sherrill’s Gubernatorial Run

A former press secretary from the Biden administration, alongside a seasoned Republican communications director, has thrown their support behind New Jersey Democrat Mikie Sherrill’s bid for governor. This news comes from an endorsement shared with Fox News Digital.

In a joint statement, Cost Coalition advisers Andrew Bates and Terry Holt noted the stark differences in affordability policies between Sherrill and her Republican opponent, Jack Ciattarelli. They expressed that Sherrill aims to leverage the governor’s powers to implement significant changes that would benefit families.

Bates, who held a role as senior deputy press secretary during the Biden administration, actively supported Biden during his 2024 campaign. Holt has a long history in Republican communications, having been a senior adviser to former House Speaker John Boehner and national press secretary for the 2004 Bush-Cheney campaign. Eventually, he founded his own firm, Holt Communication Strategies.

The Cost Coalition is a bipartisan group critical of Trump’s presidency, dedicated to decreasing living costs and addressing the national debt. They support leaders who focus on enhancing economic stability for American families.

Emergency Measures on Affordability

Sherrill is facing off against Ciattarelli, with affordability as the central theme of their campaigns. Sherrill has proposed measures such as declaring a state of emergency regarding electricity rates to freeze them, consolidating school districts to reduce property taxes, and introducing grocery stores to lower food costs through increased competition.

Holt and Bates support her plans to eliminate price gouging on groceries and to assist small businesses in competing against larger chains. They believe Sherrill will tackle issues like high home prices and rising prescription costs, striving to create and maintain well-paying jobs in New Jersey.

Bates and Holt have remarked on Ciattarelli’s campaign, suggesting they tried to view him positively but found his alignment with policies that exacerbate the economic challenges facing residents troubling. They stated that Ciattarelli received an “F” rating from their coalition for supporting these ineffective policies.

Ciattarelli’s campaign also emphasizes affordability, directing blame at Democrats for rising electricity prices. He has advocated for diversifying the state’s energy sources by focusing on natural gas and nuclear power, rather than on wind energy. His proposed incentives for small businesses aspire to mitigate high property taxes and secure tax relief for lower income levels.

With the New Jersey election approaching, Sherrill has garnered additional endorsements from notable figures, including former President Barack Obama, who recorded a campaign video to rally support. The political spotlight is increasing as Election Day nears.

As for the dynamics in New Jersey, the state has long been challenged by high taxes and housing issues, making affordability a pressing concern not just for candidates but also for voters. The narrative suggests potential shifts in voter sentiment, especially after Republicans performed better than expected in recent elections.
