Trump’s Shift on Ukraine Conflict

Recently, former President Donald Trump has altered his position on the Russia-Ukraine war. He now claims that Ukraine can reclaim all the land lost to Russia, contrasting his earlier statements suggesting that Ukraine might need to concede territory to end the conflict.

This revelation came on Tuesday via a post on Truth Social, following a meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky at the United Nations General Assembly in New York.

Trump stated, “After getting to know the Ukraine/Russia military and economic situation, and seeing the economic troubles it’s causing Russia, I think Ukraine, with European Union support, is in a position to fight and WIN all of Ukraine back in its original form. With time, patience, and the financial support of Europe—and, specifically, NATO—the original borders from where this war started are very much an option.”

He further noted, “Why not? Russia has been engaged in this aimless conflict for three and a half years—something that should have taken a capable military less than a week to win. This doesn’t reflect well on Russia; it’s making them look like ‘a paper tiger.’”

Trump went on to address the situation in Russia, pointing to gasoline shortages and economic hardships as indications of their struggles. He believes these factors could empower Ukraine to regain its territory and potentially extend beyond that.

“Putin and Russia are in BIG economic trouble,” he asserted, urging Ukraine to take action. “In any event, I wish both countries well. We will continue to supply weapons to NATO for them to use as they see fit.”

In response, Zelensky mentioned on Fox News that Putin’s dishonesty contributed to Trump’s support for Ukraine becoming stronger, saying, “The fact that Putin was lying to President Trump so many times also made a difference between us.”

Moscow quickly reacted to Trump’s statements, cautioning that the ongoing war will leave Ukraine at a disadvantage when it comes time to negotiate.

Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov remarked, “Russia is in no way a tiger; it’s more akin to a bear. There are no paper bears.” He added that Ukraine’s unwillingness to negotiate could weaken its position further.

According to reports from DeepStateMap, Russia has reportedly succeeded in capturing between 170 and 215 square miles of territory each month since May. This ongoing shift in control continues to evolve as the conflict unfolds.
