Nicki Minaj’s recent endorsements of President Donald Trump, including backing voter ID laws, are stirring quite a conversation online. Some fans are even suggesting she’s shifting from the Democratic Party to align with the Republicans.
This all kicked off last Saturday, following a week filled with Minaj’s political remarks. Many of her dedicated fans, known as “Barbs,” mentioned on X that her views have started to influence their own political beliefs.
One user boldly stated, “Today is the day to switch to Republican,” racking up over 300,000 views. This individual noted that, although they had never voted before, they intended to start.
In a separate post, another fan shared a picture of Minaj with Trump and declared, “I’m officially a Republican!!!!!! I’ll never vote for a Democrat again,” which also garnered significant attention.
Yet another account chimed in with, “Maga barbs, I will never vote for them again!!,” which caught over 70,000 views. This online buzz follows Minaj’s heightened political engagement, including her support for voter ID laws—a point she raised on X earlier this month, questioning why such measures are still debated. This comment was met with approval from Republican Rep. Anna Paulina Luna of Florida.
In an interesting twist, President Trump acknowledged Minaj during a red carpet event, calling her an “amazing person” and a “winner.” They’ve been seen together at the Trump Account Summit, where she declared herself “probably the president’s biggest fan.”
As discussions continued online, some conservative activists saw an opening to mobilize voters. Scott Pressler reached out on X, offering to help Minaj’s fans register to vote or switch their political affiliation. Tyler Bowyer from Turning Point Action echoed the sentiment, suggesting Minaj could use her tours to inspire thousands of new voter registrations.
But not all the feedback has been positive for Minaj. Some critics have taken to social media to voice their disapproval, with a clip of her music being booed at a club going viral. An online petition calling for her deportation is also gaining traction, alongside public criticism from Trevor Noah at the recent Grammy Awards.
Some argue that her newfound support for Trump is aimed at securing a pardon for her brother and husband, a notion Minaj has dismissed, stating that criticism actually strengthens her support for him.
Amid all this chatter, it’s still unclear whether these social media reactions will translate into actual voter registration or turnout.
Efforts to reach Minaj’s representatives for comments didn’t yield any responses by the time of this report.
