Supporters of Zohran Mamdani rally in NYC for a scavenger hunt

Zohran Mamdani’s Unique Campaign Stunt

On Sunday, around 2,000 supporters of New York City mayoral candidate Zohran Mamdani participated in a lively Madcap Scavenger Hunt, taking to the streets in an eye-catching display of campaign energy.

In a video shared online, supporters, who humorously referred to themselves as “mum ticks”, were seen on a bench munching on sour cream and onion potato chips as the scavenger hunt was introduced.

The event, amidst controversy surrounding former adviser Winnie Greco’s fallout with Mayor Eric Adams, featured clues that highlighted various past mayors of New York City. This interactive hunt encouraged participants to explore seven different locations, arriving by bus, train, or on foot.

The scavenger hunt kicked off outside the St. Tammany Society in Union Square, and its playful nature served as a not-so-subtle critique of Adams, who has faced scrutiny for his own scandals.

Supporters filled the area, excited to decode the next clue as campaign volunteers distributed specially designed cards that guided them to the John V. Lindsey East River Park Track.

Many participants expressed that the event provided a fun reprieve amidst a competitive and sometimes contentious campaign atmosphere.

A Green Point resident named Zmus, 38, mentioned that while he couldn’t vote as a green card holder, he felt he could contribute by being actively involved in the hunt. He described Mamdani as “refreshing” and observed that he didn’t seem to be well-regarded by his opponents, such as Adams, Andrew Cuomo, and Curtis Sliwa.

The hunt wrapped up at Little Flower Café in Astoria, one of Mamdani’s favorite coffee spots, named after the former mayor Fiorello La Guardia. Participants eagerly snapped photos with the candidate, who took a moment to speak with reporters.

Mamdani emphasized his deep affection for New York City, stating, “You cannot serve a city if you don’t love that city; you cannot fight for it.” His words resonated with many in the crowd, reinforcing the sense of community and shared purpose.
