American professional surfer Makai McNamara was placed in a medically induced coma for three days after a rigorous wipeout in the dangerous Banzai pipeline in Hawaii.
McNamara suffered a loss of consciousness last Sunday while riding a huge wave at the Banzai Pipeline, one of the world's most dangerous surf breaks. A group of surfers, lifeguards and other bystanders helped him safely return his body to the shore, where he temporarily regained consciousness.
Eli Olson, a friend of a professional surfer, called the incident a “an extraordinary accident,” and estimated that McNamara was in the water for two minutes before being rescued.
“It was just a bad wave, something like an extraordinary accident, and he was the first to head to the reef,” Olson said. Island News.
“He was in the water for nearly two minutes before I got to him. First of all, I just wanted to put his head on top of the water so that he wouldn't take in more water,” Olson said. “I gave him a couple [of] Breathing. Try giving him a couple [of] compression. ”
“We're hit by waves here. We're being recycled in the waves. Then we first got him in life, did another round of CPR compression, and he started coughing the water,” he added.
According to Fox NewsMcNamara later regained consciousness and was taken to “a local hospital where a medical professional had put him in a coma state that had led him out for three days.”
Surfer's father, Liam McNamara, said his son was “on the road to recovery” 24 hours after the incident.
“It's been 24 hours since the incident and he's on his way to recovery,” he said in the video. Posted on Instagram. “He feels your energy. He feels your love. He feels your positive vibe and we are grateful to each and every one of you for your support.”
“I am grateful to my lifeguard and all the people who helped me, so many people. Thank you for helping me save my son,” Liam continued. “He will be in the hospital for the next two days. We need continuous prayer and positive energy. Makai is a strong young man and he is going to get through this.”
