Surfer missing off South Australia’s west coast believed to be victim of shark attack | South Australia

Emergency services are searching for the body of a man believed to be the victim of a shark attack in South Australia.

A 28-year-old Port Lincoln man was attacked by a shark while surfing near Granites Beach, south of Streaky Bay on the Eyre Peninsula, just after 7pm on Thursday, witnesses said.

Police quickly responded and began a search with state emergency services and local volunteers, but the man's body has not yet been found.

Air, land and water searches resumed early Friday morning. Beaches remain closed to the public and local residents are urged to avoid the area.

The popular surf spot is approximately 700km north-west of Adelaide.

In 2023, teacher Simon Baccanello, 46, died after being attacked by a shark while surfing at Walker's Rock Beach, and Todd Gendle, 55, also died while surfing at Granites Beach. did. The two bodies were never recovered.

In the same year, 15-year-old Kai Cowley was attacked by a suspected great white while surfing off Ethel Beach on the Yorke Peninsula.
