Surfing Legend Dale Webster Passes Away

Surfing legend Dale Webster, a California native renowned for his extraordinary surfing records, has died. Webster, affectionately known as the “Daily Wavester,” passed away in Ronato Park, California. The exact cause of death hasn’t been confirmed, but according to his brother, he had been facing health challenges in recent years.

Webster gained fame for setting a world record in February 2004, surfing an impressive 10,407 consecutive days. To achieve this, he managed to ride at least three waves each day, as recognized by Guinness World Records.

In a 2015 interview with a surfing magazine, Webster shared that the idea of daily surfing initially came from a friend. After he surfed without breaks for over two months, he was encouraged to aim for 100 continuous days. “After reaching 100, the idea just grew from there,” he recalled. He started on September 3, 1975, in Bodega Bay, California, and continued for an astounding 14,642 days, dedicating over 40 years to the sport before pausing for minor medical procedures.

His best friend, William Beale, reflected on Webster’s life, saying, “Surfing was everything to him. It was his passion. I think he lived a pretty good life, especially during the years when the beaches weren’t so crowded.” Many will remember him not just for his records but also for his deep love of the ocean.
