On Friday, President Donald Trump shared a video on a social media platform showcasing a US military operation against Iran-supported Houthi rebels in Yemen, who have been targeting American vessels in the Red Sea.
“These Houthis assembled for directives on attacks. Oops, there are no assaults from these Houthis! They will never sink our ship again!” he wrote.
The White House announced that since 2023, the Houthis have documented their activities at least 174 times in the Suez Canal, the Red Sea, and the Gulf of Aden, and at least 145 instances involving commercial shipping.
Following the collapse of the ceasefire agreement between Israel and Hamas last month, the Houthis threatened to resume aggressions against vessels traversing the Suez Canal, the Red Sea, and the Gulf of Aden. In response, Trump directed American forces to engage the Houthis until they ceased firing missiles and drones at US ships. This effort, dubbed Operation Rough Rider, commenced on March 15th.
The airstrike was conducted by the USS Harry S. Truman aircraft carrier. Currently stationed in the Red Sea.
Additionally, the USS Carl Vinson Carrier Strike Group has been redirected from the Indo-Pacific to reinforce Truman in the Middle East. Concurrently, Trump has suggested talks with Iran regarding their nuclear initiatives, an invitation that was reportedly turned down.
To this point, the military action has garnered support from Republicans while facing backlash from Democrats broadly.
Rep. Randy Weber (R-TX) tweeted: “Thank you, President Trump! We have a new sheriff in town! Really into the world!”
Meanwhile, Democratic representatives claimed, without evidence, that Trump targeted the civilian tribal assembly.
He shared a laugh with Trump supporter host Sean Farrash.
