Surprising bodycam video reveals UFC star Jon Jones threatening an officer

The Albuquerque Police Department has shared body camera footage from the February incident in which UFC fighter John Jones allegedly fled the scene after a car crash and threatened a public safety aide during a phone call.

Videos acquired by a local news outlet detail the criminal charges against Jones, who reportedly left the scene of an accident involving an unnamed woman. These charges were filed last Tuesday in Bernalillo County Metropolitan Court.

When officers arrived at the traffic incident, they found the woman in the passenger seat of one vehicle. The report indicated that the woman provided the officer with a phone call to connect her to Jones, who claimed he was “driving” her car.

According to the reporting, officers noted that Jones allegedly threatened the aide over the phone.

Jones did not respond to the officers’ inquiries about his identity.

During the call, it was reported that Jones exhibited “threatening behavior” through his statements.

Court records suggested he appeared intoxicated and made indications that he could potentially use deadly force through others.

The woman mentioned that her car was being damaged.

In an interview following the crash, Jones said that earlier in the day, the woman had left his home inebriated and called him after the incident.

He noted that when she handed him the phone, the conversation began in a formal manner, causing her to question the truthfulness of her own claims.

Current reports state that Jones has been charged with a misdemeanor for fleeing the accident scene, with a bond hearing scheduled for July 24.

Jones’ attorneys have denied that he was driving the vehicle during the incident.

As for speculation about his retirement, it remains uncertain if these legal troubles are connected. UFC president Dana White did not address this situation when announcing Jones’ retirement at a recent press conference, instead revealing that Tom Aspinall is now the heavyweight champion.
