Majority Support for Deportation of Illegal Immigrants, Poll Shows
A recent survey from Harvard-Harris has indicated that a significant portion of Americans supports the deportation of all undocumented immigrants. Specifically, when asked whether they favor “deporting all immigrants living in the country illegally,” 56% expressed their support, while 44% opposed it.
Opinions on this issue are notably divided along party lines. A substantial 77% of Republicans are in favor of deporting all illegal immigrants. Interestingly, a majority of independents, at 53%, share this view. In contrast, only 37% of Democrats are supportive of such measures.
Furthermore, the poll explored perceptions regarding party attitudes toward deporting “violent illegal immigrants.” Only 55% of respondents believed Democrats are “in favor” of deporting violent offenders, whereas a higher 82% thought Republicans are supportive of such actions.
Additionally, the survey revealed that 80% of participants endorse the deportation of illegal immigrants who have committed crimes. This sentiment crosses political boundaries: 71% of Democrats, 90% of Republicans, and 79% of independents agree on this policy.
Moreover, immigration issues ranked as one of voters’ top concerns, coming in at third place, while affordability and the economy occupied the top two spots. This aligns with predictions that President Trump may receive a higher approval rating for his immigration policies, estimated at 49%.
The survey took place between May 29 and May 31, 2026, with 1,725 registered voters participating, and it carries a margin of error of +/- 2.4%.
In related news, over the weekend, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) conducted operations targeting individuals with serious convictions. Among them was Juan Flores Chavez, an illegal immigrant from El Salvador, who has a murder conviction in Texas. Another individual, Staib Charles from Haiti, was convicted of indecent assault on a child. Victor Alfonso Moreno-Jiménez, originally from Mexico, had been found guilty in Maryland of serious sexual offenses against minors.
“While Americans were enjoying their weekend, ICE law enforcement was arresting murderers and other dangerous criminals,” stated DHS Acting Assistant Secretary Lauren Biss. She emphasized the importance of prioritizing the safety of Americans, criticizing sanctuary politicians for allegedly supporting criminal undocumented immigrants over law-abiding citizens.
