Survey Reveals Women More Likely Than Men to View Crime as a 'Significant' Issue

Poll Reveals Views on Crime Among American Women and Men

A recent Gallup poll indicates that American women are more likely than men to believe that crime is a significant issue. Around 55% of women surveyed described crime as a serious problem, compared to 45% of men. However, both groups have reported a decline in their concerns about crime since 2024, with 69% of Republicans agreeing it’s serious, while most independents and Democrats seem to think otherwise.

Interestingly, 72% of women anticipated that crime would escalate by 2023, whereas only 55% of men felt the same way. Historical data points out that, by 2025, this perception dropped by 17% for women and 10% for men.

The findings also suggest that individuals earning less than $40,000 annually are more prone to believe that crime will worsen in 2025 compared to wealthier counterparts. In addition, those living in urban or rural areas, as well as metropolitan regions, expressed more urgency about crime than suburban residents.

In another finding, President Trump enjoyed a slightly higher approval rating among female voters in 2024 than in 2020, even though women typically lean more liberal. Trump has made promises to enhance law enforcement in cities perceived as liberal, with ongoing efforts in places like Chicago to tackle violent crime. His crackdowns commenced in August, which included deploying federal law enforcement to Washington, D.C. He also sent the National Guard to maintain order in public spaces and plans further deployments to cities like Portland, Oregon, facing unrest.

These actions have ignited a public conversation regarding crime severity in Washington, D.C., a city known for its high murder rate. While some criticize Trump for exaggerating the crime issue, he argues the measures are necessary.
