Young Americans are experiencing feelings of loneliness and have greater worries about the future compared to older generations, new studies reveal.
In a survey on Emotional frequency, 29% of “solid or isolated” NBC News poll participants within the 18-29 age group report experiencing emotional states “always,” “most of the time,” or “most” of the time.
Among respondents aged 30-44, 26% shared similar feelings of loneliness or isolation, while 15% of those aged 55-64 and 8% of individuals over 65 reported these sentiments.
Additionally, 34% of survey participants aged 18-29 indicated they felt lonely or isolated “occasionally,” while 30% experienced these feelings “mostly,” and some reported “never” having such emotions.
Former President Trump’s return to the political scene has generated uncertainty and debate as he addresses key issues like education, LGBTQ rights, and economic policies.
Two-thirds of NBC News respondents aged 18-29 stated they “strongly” or “somewhat” disapprove of Trump’s job performance.
Young Americans also express significant concern regarding their future, with 56% in the 18-29 age group indicating they are generally “worried or anxious about their future.”
In contrast, 50% of respondents aged 30-44 reported similar worries, with 37% of those aged 45-64 and 32% of individuals over 65 sharing these concerns.
Overall, 19% of NBC News respondents indicated they frequently experience feelings of loneliness or isolation, while 42% reported being worried about the future almost all or most of the time.
The NBC News poll will be conducted from April 11 to April 20, with an estimated sample size of 19,682 participants and a margin of error of ±2.2 points. Among the 2,230 individuals in the 18-29 age group, the margin of error is ±2.7 percentage points.
