Survey shows that roughly 70% of Democrats hold a positive opinion of their party

According to a recent poll by the Associated Press-NORC Center for Public Affairs Research, roughly 70% of Democrats view their party favorably. This is quite a drop from September 2024, when approval was at 85%. The decline really set in after Donald Trump won the election, with favorable views dropping to 67% by October 2025.

Meanwhile, Republicans are looking to retain their majority in both houses during the upcoming midterm elections.

Interestingly, about 25% of Americans hold negative views of both major parties. Only around half of U.S. adults have a positive opinion of just one party, and a mere 10% express favorable feelings toward both.

Breaking it down further, around 30% of U.S. adults view the Democratic Party very unfavorably, with 24% somewhat unfavorable. Conversely, 8% have a very favorable view, while 27% feel somewhat favorable. The Republican Party doesn’t fare much better; 35% have a very favorable view, 18% somewhat favorable, and 15% very unfavorable, with 21% having a somewhat unfavorable opinion.

Interviews for this poll were conducted from February 5 to February 8, 2026, and included adults aged 18 and over from all 50 states and the District of Columbia. The overall margin of sampling error is about 3.9 percentage points at the 95% confidence level, with a margin of plus or minus 6 points specifically for Democrats and their supporters.
