Trump’s Campaign Plans for the 2026 Midterm Elections
On “The Mom View” podcast, White House Chief of Staff Susie Wiles mentioned that President Donald Trump intends to campaign vigorously in the 2026 midterm elections, similar to his efforts in the 2024 presidential race. A White House official confirmed to the Daily Caller that Trump is set to embark on a yearlong national tour promoting his economic policies.
Wiles pointed out that historically, presidents tend to avoid significant involvement in midterm elections. However, Trump’s participation might be vital for maintaining the Republican majority in the Senate. She remarked, “He’s going to have a good time next year, but we’re going to have him campaigning as well… Normally in midterm elections, it’s not about who’s going to sit in the White House.” Wiles suggested that by localizing elections, federal officials can be kept out, but Trump’s presence could attract low-propensity voters who support him.
She further noted that while she hasn’t completely shared this plan with Trump yet, he will campaign as if it’s 2024, focusing on the people he believes he can help. “The midterm elections are going to be very important for us. He’s going to work very hard to maintain the majority in the Senate,” she said.
As of late November, President Trump has increased his international travels but has decreased his domestic engagements compared to his first term. Meanwhile, affordability has emerged as a key focus for Democrats after the November 2025 elections, and Republicans are also strategizing around this issue. Deputy Chief of Staff James Blair indicated that Republicans would prioritize affordability in the upcoming midterms.
White House officials revealed that Trump’s tour will kick off in Pennsylvania on Tuesday. During a recent Cabinet meeting, Trump dismissed the term “affordability,” calling it a “Democrat scam.” He argued that Democrats created the affordability problem but didn’t resolve it, claiming he was brought into office to tackle the issue. “We’re driving prices down,” he stated, insisting that prices, particularly for beef, have fallen since he took office and attributing these changes to his administration’s efforts.
